An eM Client alternative made for Gmail

eM Client is a whole desktop suite for Windows and Mac: email from any provider, with calendar, contacts and tasks. Dodosend is narrower on purpose: made for Gmail itself, run from the keyboard, on Mac, Windows and Linux. Here’s how they compare, and when eM Client is the better pick.

A palette that reads times

eM Client has a command palette too. Dodosend’s also reads a time the way you’d type it: try “remind me fri 10” on sample mail.

Which one is for you

Pick Dodosend if…

  • Your mail is all Gmail

eM Client reaches Gmail over IMAP, where labels become tags. Dodosend works with Gmail itself: labels stay labels, and from: or has:attachment work as they do in Gmail.

  • You’re on Linux

Dodosend has a Linux desktop build, as an AppImage, a .deb and an .rpm, next to macOS and Windows. eM Client is for Windows and Mac.

  • You’d use the free plan for work

eM Client’s free version is for home use. Dodosend’s Free plan covers one Gmail or Google Workspace mailbox, with every feature, at home or at work.

  • You want mail to come back when it matters

H brings a thread back at the time you type, and ⌘⇧H brings it back only if nobody replies. Scheduled send goes out on time even with the app closed.

Pick eM Client if…

  • You want calendar, contacts and tasks in one suite

eM Client is a whole personal-information app. Dodosend is about mail, with your Google Calendar beside it.

  • You have more than Gmail

eM Client takes any IMAP or POP account, and Exchange. Dodosend is Gmail and Google Workspace only, for now.

  • You want every account in one inbox

eM Client’s All Inboxes shows every account together. Dodosend shows one mailbox at a time.

  • You’d rather pay once

eM Client sells one-time licenses. Dodosend’s Multi-mailbox plan is billed monthly or yearly.

  • You want a settled app

Dodosend is still in beta: it changes often, and you may hit a rough edge. If you’d rather not, eM Client is the steadier choice.

Switching from eM Client

Nothing moves: your mail stays in Gmail, so your threads, labels and drafts are there once you sign in to Dodosend with Google. Dodosend doesn’t need IMAP, since it works with Gmail itself. What lives only in eM Client stays there: its local folders, and the rules it runs on your computer. Gmail’s own filters keep working, since Gmail runs them.
